Chemical Peel Treatments in the Minneapolis, MN Area
Chemical exfoliation – also known as a chemical peel – is a process used to improve skin tone and texture, reduce brown spots and treat acne by accelerating the natural process of skin cell turn-over, or exfoliation.
Chemical peels are great for re-texturing and brightening the skin for a fresh look. Treatments can be applied to the face, neck and chest to even color tone. Chemical peels are not used to correct lax skin, sagging skin, severe wrinkles or deep scars.
Superficial peels usually involve mild redness the day of the procedure followed by light flaking for three to six days. More aggressive peels can be associated with longer periods of exfoliation. Improvement can be gradual, and a series of treatments is generally recommended for optimal results. Thereafter, occasional treatments help maintain beneficial effects.
A consultation is recommended to determine which chemical peel is best for you.
Dr. Sharif uses proprietary blends made by renowned vendors such as Mesoestetic, exclusive to Metro Vein and Cosmetic Surgery, to achieve the results you are looking for.
This is an alpha hydroxy acid peel derived from sugar cane or rhubarb. This no down-time peel rapidly removes damaged surface skin cells to reveal fresh skin and stimulate cell rebuilding. It softens fine lines and wrinkles and helps reduce signs of photo-aging, such as skin pigmentation. It is available in varying concentrations, and with the low concentration, you may experience little to no visible flaking.
This is the only peel suitable for rosacea or skin prone to redness. It actually includes ingredients that are found in medications used to treat rosacea. Azelan is extremely effective for people with oily- and acne-prone skin, as well. Salicylic and azelaic acids kill acne bacteria and deep clean pores to relieve breakouts. A series of three treatments at two-to three-week intervals is recommended to control mild to moderate acne and control the symptoms of rosacea.
Naturally derived from fermented milk or sugar beets, lactic acid is excellent for dry and sensitive skin types. It stimulates collagen and elastin, hydrates and gives you a luminous complexion. It also softens fine lines and wrinkles.
Jessner is a mix of salicylic, lactic and citric acids. Effective in reducing hyper-pigmentation, Jessner improves skin texture and luminosity. It also helps with acne-prone skin and scarring.
A mix of pyruvic acid and lactic acid, Piruvex reduces hyper-pigmentation, increases cell turnover and stimulates collagen and elastin. It reduces fine lines and wrinkles and helps reduce mild seborrheic keratosis. Piruvex can be used as a moderate resurfacing treatment for scarring.
Trichloracetic acid (TCA) accelerates skin cell turnover to reveal a healthy looking glow and smoother skin. TCA is one of the strongest peeling agents available on the market. It softens fine lines and wrinkles and helps reduce moderate photo-damage, scarring, hyper-pigmentation, solar lentigines (liver spots), and actinic and seborrheic keratosis. TCA stimulates collagen and elastin production. One week of peeling is expected after a TCA treatment, and a home post-care kit is included.
